What Is an RTF File?
RTF carries basic formatting — fonts, bold, lists, tables — in a form practically every word processor since the 1980s can read. It is the lowest common denominator of formatted text. RTF is a format rather than a compression method — plain text with formatting codes. What is inside decides the quality.
